1. Production capacity

By the end of 2020, there were more than 15,200 plywood production enterprises in the country, distributed in 26 provinces (cities and districts); the total production capacity was about 256 million cubic meters per year, an increase of 11.8% on the basis of the end of 2019; the average production capacity of enterprises About 17,000 cubic meters per year, showing a trend of double growth in the number of enterprises and total production capacity, and a decline in the average production capacity of enterprises.

At the beginning of 2021, there are more than 2,050 plywood manufacturers under construction across the country, with a total production capacity of about 24.4 million cubic meters per year. Except for Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Qinghai and Tibet Autonomous Region, the remaining 25 provinces (District) all have plywood production enterprises under construction. It is expected that the total production capacity of plywood products in the country will exceed 270 million cubic meters per year by the end of 2021.

2. Production and consumption

In 2020, China's production of plywood products was 198.91 million cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 0.6%, accounting for 64.0% of the total output of wood-based panels, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1 percentage points, of which blockboard was 15.39 million cubic meters. In the past 10 years, the average annual growth rate of China's plywood products has reached 9.2%, and the growth rate has slowed down, but it is still the fastest growing board type among wood-based panels. For a long time, the total production capacity of China's plywood products has been greater than the product output, and the utilization rate of China's plywood products production capacity has been continuously reduced.

In 2020, China produced 15.39 million cubic meters of blockboard, a year-on-year decrease of 12.7%. After the peak development period from 2013 to 2015, due to the continuous expansion of the application of oriented strand board and other products in the household field, the annual output of blockboard in China The downward trend is obvious.

The scale of aldehyde-free plywood products has been continuously expanded, and the product categories have gradually been enriched. The application of polyurethane adhesives, soy-based protein adhesives, starch-based adhesives, lignin adhesives, thermoplastic resin films, etc. Further growth, in 2020, the output of formaldehyde-free plywood products will be about 1.25 million cubic meters, accounting for 0.6% of the total output of plywood products. Production of ultra-thin high-density fiberboard veneers continues to increase.

The proportion of packaging plywood and plywood for furniture and interior decoration has increased, the proportion of blockboard products has dropped significantly, the proportion of building formwork products has decreased, and the proportion of plywood used for container floor and solid wood composite floor substrate has decreased.

In 2020, the consumption of plywood products in China was 185.63 million cubic meters, a slight decrease of 1.1 percentage points year-on-year. In the past 10 years, the average annual growth rate of China's plywood product consumption has reached 10.7%, and the growth rate has continued to decline. It is still the fastest growing board type among wood-based panels, and the consumption growth rate is still 1.5 percentage points higher than the output growth rate. In 2020, the inventory of plywood products in China will further increase, and the efficiency of enterprises will decline.

3. International trade

Fourth, product standards and quality

There are 41 current plywood product standards (national standards, industry standards and group standards), including 21 national standards, 17 forestry industry standards, and 3 group standards. Among the production enterprises of plywood products, there are about 84 large enterprises or enterprise groups, accounting for less than 1% of the total number of enterprises, with a total production capacity of 31.16 million cubic meters per year, accounting for 12.2% of the national total production capacity. Small and medium-sized enterprises account for more than 99%, and the proportion of medium-sized enterprises in major production clusters has increased, while the proportion of small-sized enterprises has continued to decline.
